4 Ways To Help Your Body Adjust To Daylight Savings

However, many feel sluggish and tired throughout the day. Fortunately, you can take some steps to adjust to the time change. Then you’ll be refreshed and able to enjoy the extra sunlight each day.

1.      Soak up Bright Light in the Morning

Waking up an hour earlier is hard on your body, but you can give yourself a boost by soaking up sunlight each morning. If possible, let natural light inside of your bedroom when waking up. However, you can also use a sunrise alarm clock to help you get a dose of sunlight in the morning.

2.      Stick to a Routine

It’ll be much easier for your body to adjust if you stick to the same routine each day. First, wake up and go to bed at the same time every morning and night. Also, set a schedule for eating and socializing. Following a routine will help your body get used to the time change, so you’ll be sleepy when it’s time for bed.

3.      Limit Your Naps

Have you found yourself sneaking in naps after the time change? While lots of people are napping right now, it makes it hard to go to sleep at night. If you can’t manage without a little shuteye during the day, limit your naps to 20 minutes. Also, nap earlier in the day, so it’ll be easier to fall asleep in the evenings.

4.      Don’t Drink Caffeine Late at Night

Are you drinking more caffeine than normal to stay awake during the day? Unfortunately, that makes it hard to sleep at night, creating a vicious cycle. You’ll find it’s even easier to sleep if you don’t have coffee or any other caffeinated beverages for a full six hours before bedtime. Then you’ll sleep better at night, meaning you won’t be as reliant on caffeine during the day.
