A Description
There are trails for people of all ability levels. The trails are located just 6 miles outside of Gallup. To get there, travel east on Route 66 and then turn left onto Highway 566. You’ll drive on that road for just half a mile. You’ll turn left again into Park Entrance and follow the signs to the Pyramid Rock Trail or the Outlaw Trading Post. Anywhere in the park gives you mesmerizing views of sandstone spires and rock formations.
Pyramid Rock Trail
This is possibly the most popular and well-known trail in the park. It provides incredible views of the beautiful background. It’s a 3-mile hike that will put you close to fabulous rock formations. Furthermore, the trail climbs to a summit where you can see a panoramic view of the landscape. As you hike or walk, you will also see signs about the area’s history, culture, and geography.
Church Rock Trail
This trail is a little shorter, about 2 miles, so it is a good option if you have younger travelers with you or if you need something less vigorous. The trail starts at the Outlaw Trading Post parking lot. You’ll get to see the famed Church Rock sandstone spires.
Gallup North Hogback Trail
You will find this trail in the northwest direction of the Red Rock Motorsports area. This trail is ideal if you are looking for a more vigorous workout. You can even bring your bike on it. There are steep areas, but the views are incredible.

Visit the Museum
There is more to do there than just hike. For example, you should plan on checking out the Red Rock Museum. You’ll see interpretive exhibits that tell you about the history and culture of the Pueblo Native Americans. You can also learn about modern-day tribes such as the Zuni, Hopi, and Navajo. Displays include pottery, rugs, silver, and turquoise. The museum is at 825 Outlaw Road.
