If you’re looking for an irresistibly yummy dish you and your family can enjoy, check out this crab rangoon dip by The Cozy Cook. You can make this dip two days ahead of time, and then all you have to do is pop it in the oven to bake when you’re ready. It’s served with chips of your choice, but you can’t go wrong with golden fried wontons. This dip puts a fun spin on the classic crab rangoon wontons and is arguably easier to make because you don’t have to worry about folding the wontons.
Ingredients
- 1 Quart Vegetable Oil
- 8 Ounces of Cream Cheese, Softened
- 12 Ounces of Wonton Wraps
- 1/2 Cup of Sour Cream
- 4 Diced Green Onions, Separated
- 1 Teaspoon of Soy Sauce
- 1 Cup of Mozzarella Cheese, Separated
- 2 Teaspoons of Brown Sugar
- 3 Ounces of Canned Crab Meat
- 1 Clove of Minced Garlic
Supplies
- Hand Mixer
- Large Bowl
- Silicone Spatula
- Dutch Oven
Directions
To Make The Dip:
Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Step 2: In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese in a large bowl. NOTE: Before beating the cream cheese, you’ll want to make sure that it’s had plenty of time to sit out to get soft. Otherwise, it will become lumpy when combined with the other ingredients.
Step 3: Add the soy sauce and the sour cream to the bowl and then beat together.
Step 4: Add half the green onions, brown sugar, half of the cheese, garlic, and crab into the large bowl, and then, using a spatula, mix it together.
Step 5: Place the mixture into a baking dish and then top with the remaining cheese.
Step 6: Cover the baking dish and bake it in the oven for 20 minutes.
Step 7: Remove the cover and then bake the dip for another 10 minutes. NOTE: You’ll want to bake the dip long enough that the cheese on top has melted and is beginning to brown.
Step 8: Remove the dish from the oven and top with the remaining green onions.
Step 9: Enjoy!
To Make The Wontons:
Step 1: Add oil to the Dutch oven and heat it to about 325 degrees Fahrenheit.
Step 2: Cut the wonton wraps in half and cook them in batches of five. NOTE: Do not drop the wontons into the oil. Lower them slowly using tongs.
Step 3: Flip the wontons occasionally so they can brown on both sides.
Step 4: When they are light brown, remove the wontons from the oil and place them on a paper towel.
Step 5: Sprinkle the wontons with salt.
Step 6: Repeat the process until all the wontons are cooked.
